This pencil illustration explores the first beast of Daniel 7 — The City of Babylon. A biblical art timelapse rooted in 2,500 years of prophecy. The prophet Daniel saw four beasts rising from a great sea. The first was like a lion. Its wings were plucked, and it was made to stand like a man. This drawing is my imagining of that creature.

This is the first entry in the Biblical Bestiary — a collection of creatures and beings from scripture, rendered by hand in pencil. Each entry explores the text through art, asking what it means to give visual form to things that were, are, and may yet still be.
