Wurm of Oblivion
Digital Painting
The "Wurm of Oblivion" is directly inspired by the Biblical account of Leviathan—a manifestation of chaos, and ruler of dark waters devoid of life and order.
And yet, scripture describes God as crushing this sea monster with ease. To read through the lens of literal taxonomy I think misses the point. The message is not whether Leviathan is whale, shark, or some long extinct creature—fun as that is to entertain. Rather, it shows that God tames the beast of chaos that would rear its many heads in our lives—through division, strife, hatred and more.
Discussion of Leviathan as a unique entity isn't off the table, but in an effort to be transformed rather than entertained by scripture, I need to first recognize where God quells the chaos in my own heart. And that His Son, Jesus, calms the storms that would otherwise rage in oceans we all must cross.
